Membership Guidelines and Benefits


The Ibhayi Small Business Chamber (“the Chamber”) is a non-profit company serving the Nelson Mandela Bay and surrounding areas. The following Membership Policy and Guideline document aims to provide guidance in respect of member activities which are subject to change with the approval of the Executive Committee.

1. Categories of Membership

1.1. Student

A student means a person who intends to join the Chambers in his / her independent capacity and who is registered as a student at any Higher Education Institution in South Africa at the time of joining the Chambers.

1.2. Individual

An individual means a person who intends to join the Chambers in his/ her independent capacity without association or representation of a specific organisation/ entity or business.

1.3. Non-profit Organisations

A non-profit organisation means an association/ entity that intends to join the Chambers and that is registered as a non –profit company according to the Company Laws of South Africa.

1.4. Business Membership ( Categories A, B & C)

Business membership means membership extended to entities that operate a business and employ the following number of staff:

Category A: 1-9 staff members

Category B: 10-49 staff members

Category C: 50 and more staff members

1.5. Corporate

A corporate means a company that intends to join the Chambers and who is listed on the Stock Exchange and/ or has international branches.

2. Admission of Members

2.1. Membership is open to all prospective members who qualify under the listed categories of membership as set out in paragraph 1 and who have existing businesses/ interests, or are interested in developing businesses in the Nelson Mandela Bay and surrounding areas.

2.2. The Executive Committee will assess each application and approval of membership is at the discretion of the Executive Committee.

2.3. All prospective members must pay the mandatory membership fees in full at the time of joining the Chambers. The membership fee allows a membership period starting at the time of joining and ending on the last day of February of each year. Membership is renewable on an annual basis.

2.4. Membership fees are non-refundable.

2.5. Members are expected to demonstrate ethical business conduct.

3. Termination of Membership

3.1. The Executive Committee reserves its right to withdraw membership in instances where a member is found to display conduct that is unethical and in contravention of any law/s of South Africa.

4. Non Payment of Membership Fees

4.1. Members who do not pay membership fees within 60 days of the due date may be subject to having their membership cancelled. In any such case, the Chamber will notify the member of the cancellation, and no further action shall be required of the Chamber.

5. Privacy of Member information

5.1. The Chamber is committed to protecting the privacy of members’ personal information. Personal information which the Chamber collects is used for the purpose of providing members with information about the range of membership services and benefits available. The Chamber may use member information to keep members informed of the events and seminars which may be of interest to members and to provide members with promotional and marketing material about its products and services.

To provide the range of membership services and benefits available to members, the Chamber provides your membership details and information to its related associates and service providers. By accepting membership of the Chamber, members consent to the sharing of information.
